Thala Pothichil Treatment for Psycho Somatic Disorders including Anxiety and Depression
“Thalapothichil is a Malayalam word, where Thala means head and Pothichil means covering.”( Bhakti Pain Sharma )
During this treatment, a special paste of Amla and herbal roots is applied on the head after giving a gentle head massage. The paste is then filled with oil and covered with a banana leaf. The treatment induces both physical and mental relaxation. It is an effective treatment in cooling the mind and for certain neurological conditions and psycho somatic disorders.
According to Dr. Pulak Kanti Kar, “Patient should be asked to remove his hair completely. After satisfying natural urges and in empty stomach, he should be seated on an arm chair. Abhyanga is to be done over scalp followed by Svedana. Then paste is to be applied over the vertex and a hole to be made in at the centre. Any suitable oil like Chandana Bala Lakshadi or Agurvadi Taila, etc. is to be filled in there. After that some lines are to be drawn on this tala from the centre with a blunt weapon so that oil may spread there. Then a large Vata alleviating leaf should be placed over Tala and bound well, so that the knot may remain near the ear.” (Kar, Dr. Pulak Kanti, 185)
